Learning Center Helpers

These volunteers come to the school once a week for an hour to work with the same class. The children are divided into 3 groups and rotate through learning centers that the teacher has set up. This helps enrich the children’s learning experience. The 4 year olds have learning centers from 10:00-11:00, the 3’s from 11:00-12:00, and the 2's from 10:30 -11:30. These volunteers work on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday of every week during the school year.

Volunteer tutors will work with children who are having trouble recognizing letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. The volunteers will work with the same 2 or 3 children throughout the school year so they will be forming a bond with those children. The teachers will provide the learning materials and let the volunteers know what skills the child needs help in mastering. The schedule for tutoring is Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday between the hours of 9:00-10.

Consistency is the key, so the volunteer’s commitment to “be there” for the students EACH WEEK is pivotal to the child’s academic success.

Enrichment volunteers visit the school and work with the children as their schedule permits. These volunteers help out with special events like “Trunk or Treat,” the Thanksgiving feast, or our Wild West Rodeo. They also will come read books to the children that go along with our curriculum. For example, when we are studying the letter “C” they will come read the book “If You Give a Cat a Cupcake” and then give the class a cupcake to decorate and eat. This is a fun opportunity to get involved and get to know the kids.
